Children

Children’s Music Arts and Choirs

5:30-6:00

Pre-School Choir (The Cherub Choir): Children ages 3&4 will be led in singing, playing instruments, creative movement, sign language, and games- which are all centered around the Bible story of the week. They will be invited to sing for worship at Christmas time and in the spring. Directed by Jennie Leaño. Located in Children’s Choir Room.

K-5th Choir: They are becoming good singers and worship leaders! They will learn to participate in worship in all the different ways; including praise, scripture, prayers, anthems and blessings. They will sing for worship 4-5 times during the year and presents music programs. Directed by Cynthia Johnson. Meets in Children’s Worship Room.


Children’s Discipleship Hour

6:00-7:00

Gospel Project: The children's Discipleship hour will begin at 6:00pm and will follow the Gospel Project, a curriculum that takes kids through the entire Bible in a fun, creative way. Plus, it will allow for any kid to join us anytime throughout the year! Meets in Children’s Wing. Our ages will be broken up into the following classes:

  • 3yrs-Preschool Age
  • K & 1st Grades
  • 2nd & 3rd Grades
  • 4th & 5th Grades

Children & Adult Electives

7:00-7:30

Drums and More: All hands in! Children (grades 2-5) and adults of all ages are invited to come. Mr. Alex Wingo will be leading us again this fall, and will involve us in creative Bible story-telling using drums and rhythm instruments of all kinds. Meets in Children’s Choir Room. OPEN TO CHILDREN AND ADULTS

Ukelele Band: New this year! Wes Pardue will teach us how to play songs on the Ukelele. Bring your Uke, if you have one, and if not, we will provide the instrument for you to practice with on Wednesday nights. People of all ages are invited to sign up! Meets in Confirmation Room. OPEN TO CHILDREN AND ADULTS

Basketball for 5th Grade: Are you a 5th Grader? Do you like sports? Then join us in the gym for a time of games and learning how to play sports with Christ as the center.

When Helping Hurts: This short-term study, based on the book, When Helping Hurts, will be half hour focused on missions and our role with a world in need. Open to All adults, this interactive small group will challenge and inspire you. OPEN TO ADULTS ONLY.

Youth Activities

N LIGHT N

6:15-7:15

N*L*N: Back for its 18th year, the N*L*N Youth Choir is open to all 6th-12th grade youth. No matter the level of singing ability, all are invited. In Adult Choir Room. Starts at 6:15.

Youth Group

7:15-8:15

Youth Group: From games, to food to devotion to random fun, this classic youth group format will connect youth to Christ in meaningful ways. Starts at 7:15 in Youth Room on 2nd Floor. Feel free to come early or leave early, whatever works best for you! Open to all 6th-12th grade youth. Ends at 8:15.

ADULT

Adult Discipleship Hour

6:00-7:00

Soul Keeping: Jesus calls us to a deep life, one that goes beyond our everyday interests and desires. Led by Rev. Betsy, this group will spend time engaging with John Ortberg’s book, Soul Keeping. Triplett Hall.

Ephesians: Spend six weeks in the Book of Ephesians, exploring themes, topics and theology. Led by Daniel Trabold in the Library.

Married with Kids: Begins August 22 in Rodgers. Open to all Married couples with kids under the age of 17, this class will be a wonderful opportunity for spouses to grow in understanding of each other through Christ. Cost: $75 per couple and must register with jarrod@bsumc.org.

Financial Peace University: Balancing Budgets and life can be hard! This class will explore ways to be good stewards of our life. Begins August 22, 6-7:30pm. Led by Kim and Donna Parker.

The following are other options at different times for our Adults.

Line Dancing: Mary Blackmon leads this intergenerational group in an active hour each week. 4:15-5:30 in Gym.Chancel Choir: Open to all Youth and Adults. Starts at 7:30 in Choir Room.

MEALS

We would love to have you join us for a meal and fellowship each week! This year we are making that easier! Meals will be served from 4:30 and until 6:00pm. Feel free to come during that timeframe. In addition we will be offering a kid friendly option for kids who request that meal. (If you would like to purchase meals, the cost is $7 per adult/ $3 per child under 10.)

To make a reservation for the meal, call the church office at 423-476-5586 by Monday of each week. Or email Marsha at marsha@bsumc.org to make a reservation. If you forgot to reserve, please come anyway! Or, you can bring your own meal and enjoy sharing a meal with your friends!

NEW THIS YEAR: ALL of our meals will include a kid option. For the first six weeks it will be Cheese Pizza or PB & J. For the second five weeks it will be Chicken Tenders, Mac Cheese or PB & J.

October 24: Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, peas & side salad

November 7:  Chicken & Dressing w/ vegetable melody
