“An Afternoon of History and Nature on the Tennessee River”

Join Dr. Jeannie Long and Richard Banks for a 3-1/2 hour journey on both sides of the Tennessee River. This journey begins at the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge (545 Priddy Road, Birchwood, TN 37308). Stopping points will include the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge, The Cherokee Removal Memorial and the Kilbride Nature Sanctuary. You will view the Sandhill Cranes in their feeding area, as well as in flight. While at the nature sanctuary, you will enjoy hot cider and cookies, be able to look under microscopes for microorganisms that live in the Tennessee River and use restroom facilities.

Both Jeannie and Richard are nature enthusiasts and they would enjoy your company for this Sunday afternoon . Jeannie is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Science at Tennessee Wesleyan in Athens, and serves as the Director of the Kilbride Nature Sanctuary in Dayton, TN . Richard is a Cleveland Attorney, a local history buff and birdwatcher.
