CHOIRS FOR CHILDREN

All the Children of Broad Street are invited to sing with the children's choirs.  Note the new times on Wednesdays!  Here are the details.

Cherub Choir . . . Children who will be three years old by September 30, or who are four years old will be in Cherub Choir.  We meet at 6:30 pm in one of the children’s classrooms upstairs.  The 20-30 minute rehearsal is planned to help young children learn to sing as a group, as well as participating in rhythm, movement, and listening activities.  The music is scripture based, and generally comes from the curriculum, “God’s Children Sing,” as well as other resources.  The Cherubs sing for two church-wide programs each year, and a few sanctuary services.  Heather Pardue will be the leader for 2009-2010.

The Joy Choir . . .Children who are in kindergarten or first grade will sing in the Joy Choir.  This group meets at 6:30 pm in the Children’s Church Room.  Joy Choir learns to sing on pitch, play rhythms and patterns on the Orff Instruments, and learn about our hymns and worship songs.  We will sing in three or four church-wide
programs during the year, and at least three times in the sanctuary worship services.  Our music intern, Andria Thomas, will be the leader for 2009-2010.

The Asbury Choir . . . Children who are in grades two through five will sing in the Asbury Choir.  We will meet from 6:30-7:15 pm in the Children’s Choir Room each Wednesday.  The children will improve their music reading skills by singing anthems for worship.  They will study the worship themes and learn the Bible verses that go with each song they sing.  Instruments and movement games are a part of each week’s rehearsal.  Asbury sings for worship approximately six times per year, as well as presenting musical programs for Christmas and Children’s Day.  Cynthia Johnson will be the director for 2009-2010.

HANDBELLS AND HANDCHIMES

Beginning Handchimes
Children in fourth and fifth grade are invited to register for Handchimes.  This is the first step in our handbell program.  We meet upstairs at 5:00 pm on Wednesdays in the Great
Expectations Classroom.  We also need adult volunteers for this group.

Youth Handbells
Youth in sixth grade and up are invited to ring in the Youth Handbell Choir.  We meet at 5:00 pm on Wednesdays in the Handbell Room.  Anyone who played in beginning handchimes, plays piano, or has played a band instrument can do this!

Advanced Handbells
Our most skilled handbell choir is for adults and senior high youth who read music well and/or have had experience ringing handbells.  This choir rehearsal is moving to Sunday mornings, 9:30-10:15 am in the Handbell Room.

GATHERING AT THE BRIDGE

On Wednesday evenings, not only do we all come from many different schools and activities, we also come representing all of our four worship services and many different Sunday School classes.  Gathering at The Bridge gives us an opportunity to come together as a church family and to refocus on our Christian path.

Each Wednesday from 6:00-6:30 pm, we will gather in Triplett Hall for singing, prayer, and a Bible message.  There will be a different worship leader and musicians each week.  The biblical themes for The Gathering are lectionary based.  This worship experience is designed for all ages, 0-100.
