John Wesley, the founding father of the Methodist movement, encouraged small group participation within a church. Through small groups ministry at Broad Street United Methodist Church, we offer individuals, couples and families the spiritual, mental, emotional and physical resources necessary to live full, healthy and Christ-centered lives.

World Religions in America

World ReligionsThis book introduces you to the world's religions in the United States today. Such an introduction is important because to understand America, you have to know about religion. Most, though not all, Americans say they are religious, and the world's religions flourish in today's America. Most Americans would agree that "in God we trust." But each does so in his or her quite special way, and that is what makes religion in America interesting. This book does not advocate religion, or any particular religion. Its purpose is only to describe and explain religion as an important factor in American society.

Early Church Study

Early ChurchWhy study early church history? Because it is my history. As I come to more fully understand it, I come to a fuller, clearer understanding and appreciation of who I am as God's child. The history of the early church runs through my veins and calls me to hear and know the truth of God for which these earliest followers of Jesus paid so much. Were it not for their faithfulness, their willing obedience to God's love, regardless of the cost on their own lives, there would be no Church today. They were faithful and steadfast. Great sacrifices were made that I might know the truth of God's love for me. Studying their history, their example of obedience reveals that love and strengthens my resolve to be obedient to God and faithful to the family of which He made me part.

Christian Believer

Christian BelieverChristian Believer integrates Bible study and the teachings at the heart of Christianity. These doctrines and traditions are rooted in Scripture. The starting point is clearly biblical, and daily reading of assigned Scripture is part of the preparation participants make for each weekly session.

Christian Believer is a 30-week study with daily preparation and weekly 2 l/2 hour group sessions. It integrates Bible study and study of the basic beliefs of the Christian faith. Christian Believer yokes doctrine with the Bible as source and vision for renewal of the church.

Christian Believer concentrates on the classical doctrines of the Christian faith--those that emerged in early Christianity as it struggled to understand its Scriptures and its experience of Jesus, and that have remained central to Christian teaching through the centuries. Doctrine is the church's answer to questions that grow out of human life in general and out of Christian experience in particular.

Short-Term Disciple

Short Term Old TestamentThese eight  week in-depth, high commitment Bible studies are modeled after the basic design of DISCIPLE Bible Study, which has enriched more than 1 million lives. Short-Term DISCIPLE Bible Studies make these life-changing courses easier to be a part of for those busy people who are unable to commit to longer studies.

Short Term New Testament Weekly group meetings are designed to last 60-90 minutes with a two-part video segment to guide each session with interpretive presentations from biblical scholars; contextual presentations and roundtable discussions; and opportunities for reflection, contemplation, or inspiration on some aspect of the Scripture studied.

Companions in Christ
The Way of Forgiveness

Companions CircleIt takes a lot of willingness and practice to see life from God's perspective. Perhaps nothing goes more against the grain of human nature than the ideas of forgiving those who wound us and accepting forgiveness from others.  The Way of Forgiveness explores how to deal with these issues to preserve "the beauty of our souls" and to fulfill the teachings of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount.
